Kazuyoshi Akiyama, a leading figure in the conducting world, will present a program based on a unique idea related to his birthday anniversary year. First up is ``Lotus on a Moonlit Night - Homage to Mozart'' by the international master Toshio Hosokawa. This is a piano concerto commissioned by North German Radio to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth in 2006, and is based on the genius's Concerto No. 23. However, the reality is Hosokawa's mysterious, dreamlike music. Momo Kodama, the famous pianist who was in charge of both the world premiere and Japan premiere of this work, vividly portrays this unique world.
The second half will be Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, which celebrated his 150th birthday in 2023. It is a magnificent work full of romantic melodies, thoughts full of nostalgia and melancholy, and thick, rich sounds, and has become extremely popular in recent years. We are looking forward to the skillful construction and highly mature expressiveness of Akiyama, who has a reputation for creating large-scale works. By the way, the composer was born on April 1st. This performance will truly be the culmination of the birth anniversary season.
