World Dream Orchestra

The New Japan Philharmonic World Dream Orchestra (W.D.O.)

The W.D.O. project was launched by the New Japan Philharmonic in collaboration with Joe Hisaishi in the summer of 2004. The most important of the orchestra's themes is its desire to bring a fascinating array of musical works from around the world to as many people as possible, regardless of genre. Since then, W.D.O. has held numerous concerts around the country, including "Joe Hisaishi in Budokan" held at the Nippon Budokan in 2008. In 2015, W.D.O. started a new project in which it creates symphonic suites of Hisaishi's music for Studio GHIBLI animations, the first being the performance of the Symphonic Poem "NAUSICAÄ". In 2016, W.D.O. performed a second symphonic suite, "Princess Mononoke", and will conduct a ten concert tour in nine cities in Japan in addition to Taiwan, W.D.O.'s first overseas concert.
