Toru Kawakami

Toru Kawakami

profile

Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Toho Gakuen University. While in school, he studied abroad on a scholarship at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in the United States. During his stay in the United States, he participated in a music festival and won the best string instrument player award. After studying at the Liszt Conservatory, he served as Chief flutist of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kobe City Chamber Orchestra, and the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra (contracted).

Received 2nd prize at the Japan Chamber Music Competition, the Menuhin Special Prize at the London International String Quartet Competition, and the Miyagi Prefecture Art Encouragement Newcomer Award. In addition to being active in the Saito Kinen Orchestra, he has frequently performed as a soloist with major domestic orchestras and received critical acclaim.

In 2016, he released his first solo album "Blessing Notes", which was highly praised by Akira Miyagawa. A 1750 Francesco Mantegazza and a 2014 Jay Haida are used for this recording.
