1st place and 6 special awards at the 2016 Franz Liszt International Piano Competition. 4th place at the 2021 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition.
After studying at Tokyo University of the Arts, he enrolled in the graduate school soloist program at the Hannover University of Music and Performing Arts.
At just 19 years old, he became the youngest person to win a prize at the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Received five special awards including the Grand Prix and Audience Award at the Pitina Piano Competition, special award for Mozart performance at the Cleveland International Piano Competition, and first place and Audience Award at the Kissingen International Piano Olympics, becoming the first Japanese to do so.
He has performed not only in Japan but also in over 20 countries around the world, and has appeared at many international music festivals.
Debuted on CD in 2015, and in March 2020 released an album of ambitious arrangements, including world premiere recordings. Tomoki Sakata's piano arrangement collection "Vocalise" will be published in May 2022, and "After the Dream" will be published by Ongaku no Tomosha in July 2023.
He has made many media appearances on TV and radio both domestically and internationally.
Received the 2017 Yokohama Cultural Prize Culture and Arts Encouragement Award. Received the 32nd Idemitsu Music Award in 2023.
