Mutsumi Taniguchi, Mezzo-soprano

Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts. After graduating from the Graduate School of Solo Vocals, she completed the Nikikai 47th Master Class and the Nikikai Professional Course. Following her successful debut as Sesto in La clemenza di Tito, she made her debut at the New National Theatre playing the title role in Carmen, an opera appreciation class for high school students. She further garnered acclaim for her role as the composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, and went on to receive acclaim for her performances in Don Carlo, Fricka in Das Rheingold at Biwako Hall, Ortrud in Lohengrin, Cavalleria Rusticana at the New National Theatre, and The Tales of Hoffmann.

She has also performed with numerous orchestras in concerts, performing works such as the Ninth Symphony, Rossini's Stabat Mater, and Verdi's Requiem. She also received high praise for her captivating singing at a recital hosted by Nikikai. She has also appeared on the NHK New Year Opera Concert and the Untitled Concert, captivating audiences with her glamorous stage presence.

Winner of the 19th Idemitsu Music Award and the 2010 Yonden Arts and Culture Encouragement Award. Member of the Nikikai Society.
