Chinese-Australian Lee Wei Kin is the most popular cellist of his generation.
After winning the silver medal at the 11th International Chakovsky Competition, in 2001 he also won the Grand Prize at the Naumburg Competition in New York.
Leeway was invited to the BBC's 'New Generations' slot in 2001 and won the Young Australian of the Year Award in 2002. Other performances include the 2008 Beijing Olympics with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the 2012 London Olympics, the Davos World Economic Forum with the Basel Symphony Orchestra), and the opening ceremony of the Fortune Global Forum 2017.
Highlights of recent seasons include debuts with the London Symphony Orchestra, performances with the Russian Philharmonic, the Czech Chamber Orchestra and the Brussels Chamber Orchestra. He has been invited again by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the China Philharmonic, and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
He is currently a visiting professor at the National University of Singapore, Shanghai and China Central Conservatory of Music. As artistic director, he established the annual Qingdao International Cello Festival in 2018.
Leeway uses a 1780 Giuseppe Guadagnini loaned by Dr. Wilson Goh and his wife.
