Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1994. Learned cello and piano from an early age.
He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Faculty of Music, Department of Conducting at Chief his class. He received the Ataka Award, the Doseikai Award, and the Wakasugi Hiroshi Memorial Fund Award from the university. He also graduated from the Graduate School of Music, Department of Conducting, Master's Program.
In 2015, he won second place and the Audience Award at the 17th Tokyo International Music Competition (Conducting). He studied conducting under Tadaaki Otaka and Ken Ken Takaseki, and composition under Junichi Futahashi. He has taken lessons from Kazuki Yamada and Paavo Järvi. He has conducted the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, and Osaka Symphony Orchestra, and is one of the leading young conductors with great expectations for further success in the future. He will serve as the Principal Conductor of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra from April 2019 to March 2022. He will be the Conductor of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra from April 2023 and Chief Conductor of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra from April 2024.
In February 2021, Octavia Records released Symphony No. 8 (9) in C major, D944, "The Great" (recorded live from a performance by New Japan Philharmonic). Amid the tension of the performance, which took place just after the state of emergency due to COVID-19 was lifted, Ota's energetic rendition of "Great" stole the show.
