Hugh Wolff was conductor Chief of the Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra from 1997 to 2006, and since September 2017 he has been conducting the National Orchestra of Belgium Music Director has served. He has appeared in all major orchestras in the United States, including Chicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Cleveland. In Europe, he has made guest appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, the French National Orchestra, the Leipzig Shimowandhaus Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, etc., and has also performed with orchestras from Japan, Korea, Scandinavia, and Australia. After graduating from Harvard University in 1975, he served as assistant conductor of the Washington National Symphony Orchestra under Mstislav Rostropovich in 1979, followed by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago, and He was Music Director of the St. Paul's Chamber Orchestra. He is also a regular at summer music festivals such as Aspen, Tanglewood and Lavinia, and has made numerous recordings. He also focuses on mentoring younger students at the New England Conservatory. This will be their second time performing with New Japan Philharmonic since February 2010.
