Born in Kitakyushu City. Her nickname is "Maro".
Having received instruction from her parents since the age of three, she entered the Vienna Municipal Conservatory in 1981. The following year, she made her concert debut at the Konzerthaus. Since then, she has won numerous awards at major European competitions and has been active in a wide range of solo and chamber music performances mainly in Europe. Her performances have been praised by various media outlets, such as "reliable technique and playful musicality" (Wiener Zeitung) and "a round, vivid tone like rolling pearls and captivating musicality" (Volksstimme). Her perfect technique and passionate, beautiful tone are said to be unparalleled.
After returning to Japan in 1988, he served as concertmaster for the Gunma Symphony Orchestra and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra before becoming concertmaster of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in 1997. Since then, he has been active both domestically and internationally as "the face of the NHK Symphony Orchestra." During European tours, he was praised as having been "beyond words' godlike" (British newspaper) and as having "logistics and training evolved into art, and the charismatic presence of concertmaster Shinozaki "Maro" Fuminori was like that of a warrior clad in silver-white armor, overseeing everything" (British newspaper The Classical Source).
He will retire from his post in March 2025, much to the regret of his fans.
He is also actively involved in concert planning, and in "MARO World," which started in 2004 at the Ginza Oji Hall, he has featured a different composer each time. From that series, the string ensemble "MARO Company" was formed, and it has developed into "MARO Orchestra (Meister Art Romantker Orchester)," a large chamber music group without a conductor. All of these are popular series that consistently sell out. Every January, he stands on the conductor's podium while playing the violin and holds "Shinozaki MARO Fumiki's New Year's Concert," which is reminiscent of the Vienna New Year's Concert.
He is active in a wide range of media, serving as a presenter on NHK E-TV's "Classical Music They Don't Teach You in School" and "Classical Music Hall," and appearing in the SWITCH interview "Masters: Shinozaki Fuminori x Kikuno Masahiro." Currently, he captivates fans with his skillful talk on the NHK radio program "MARO's SP Diary" (broadcast twice a year). His activities also extend to writing, and in recent years he has been serializing "Marotei," a classical music café on the pages of the magazine "Ongaku no Tomo."
In 2024, his first picture book, "Music is Magic" (illustrations by Wataru Murao), was published by Little More, and his essay, "The Moment Music Transcends Human Intelligence," was published by Poplar Publishing. He is currently serializing "MARO's Journey" in the monthly magazine "Ongaku no Tomo."
In 1996, he established the Tokyo Junior Orchestra, and he has also dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of musicians, including providing instruction and performing in "Moments of Musical Inspiration - Chamber Music Seminar & Concert."
MARO World won the Classical Chamber Music/Choral Award at the 33rd Music Pen Club Music Awards in 2020. She received the Kitakyushu Citizen's Culture Award in 1979 (the youngest recipient in history), the Fukuoka Prefecture Culture Award in 2001, and the Arima Award in 2014. She is a Kitakyushu Cultural Ambassador and a member of the WHO International Academy of Medicine's Life Harmony Science Council.
