Yousuke Shimizu, cello

Born in Gifu Prefecture in 2002. Started playing the cello at the age of six.
In 2017, at the age of 14, he traveled to Hungary alone and enrolled in the Bartók Music High School and the Special Talent Development Course at the Liszt Ferenc University of Music. From 2021, he will study under Csaba Onczay at the Liszt Ferenc University of Music as a Hungarian government Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship recipient, graduating with Chief in 2024.
He has won first place at the 2024 Bratislava International Cello Competition (Slovakia), first place and a special prize at the 9th Popper International Cello Competition (Hungary), first place at the 6th Gifu International Music Festival Competition, and a gold medal at the 16th Izuminomori Junior Cello Competition. He has also received numerous other awards. He has received the Gifu Prefecture Arts and Culture Encouragement Award in 2023 and the Gifu Prefecture of Clear Rivers Honor Award in 2024.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hungarian Albaregia Orchestra, Hungarian Anima Chamber Orchestra, Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, Capella Istropolitana Chamber Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, and Osaka Symphony Orchestra.
He has studied under Hiromi Yamanaka, Ryoichi Hayashi, Yutaka Hayashi, Nobuko Yamazaki, Dai Miyata, and Susan Moses. He has also attended master courses with Miklós Perenyi, Tamas Varga, and Lee Kang-ho. In 2025, he became Chief guest performer of the Rentaro Chamber Orchestra Kyushu. He is currently active both in Japan and abroad, focusing on solo and chamber music. He is a participating artist in Chanel Pygmalion Days 2025.
