"Peer Gynt" performance and Miku Yasukawa (soprano)'s appearance (May 2026 "Sumida "TOBIRA" of classic" 39th edition)

There will be changes to the program and performers for the 39th "Sumida "TOBIRA" of classic" to be held on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th, 2026.

(Before change)
Grieg: "Peer Gynt" Suite No. 1 and 2

(After change)
Grieg: Excerpts from incidental music to the play "Peer Gynt" ("Solveig's Lullaby" and more)

In addition, soprano singer Miku Yasukawa has been confirmed to appear.
This change was made after conductor Cornilios Mihailidis re-examined "Peer Gynt" and, after much discussion, decided that a composition using excerpts from the incidental music would convey the flow and narrative of the work more naturally than performing it as a suite.

The 2026/2027 season of the "Sumida "TOBIRA" of classic" series will be themed around "Travelling the World Through Music." In the 39th episode, enjoy the natural scenery and storytelling of Finland and Norway.
