Heinz Holliger is one of the most versatile and extraordinary musicians of our time. Having begun his unparalleled career as an international performer by winning first place at the Geneva and Munich International Music Competitions, Holliger has performed in major concert halls around the world. Through his work as both composer and performer, he has made a great contribution to expanding the technical possibilities of the oboe, and many of today's leading composers have dedicated works to him.
He has received many honors and awards, including the Swiss Musicians Association Composer's Award and the Venice Biennale Abbiati Prize. In 2015, he was awarded the Swiss Music Prize. In 2016, he was elected a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2022, he will receive the Schumann Prize from the Academy of Sciences of Mainz, Germany. He has also received many awards for his recordings, including the Diapason d'Or, MIDEM Classics Award, Edison Award, and Grand Prix du Disque.
As a conductor, Holliger has performed with the world's leading orchestras and ensembles, and as a composer he receives constant offers from all over the world, and his works have been published by Schott Music International. His opera based on Robert Walser's short play "Snow White" was performed at the Zurich Opera and attracted international attention. His major works include "Scardanelli Cycle" and "Violin Concerto". In recent years, his vigorous desire to compose has shown no signs of slowing down, with works such as "Increscantum" for soprano and string quartet (2014) and "Dämmerlicht" for soprano and orchestra (2015). In 2018, the Zurich Opera produced a new opera, "Lunaire".
As an oboist, conductor and composer, he has released numerous recordings for Teldec, Philips, ECM, SWR/Hänssler and Audite.
