Cello: Sayama Yuki

Yuki Sayama, cello

profile

Born in Tochigi Prefecture. Selected for the cello division of the 92nd Japan Music Competition, she won first place in the 13th Viva Hall Cello Competition, and won first place in the Tokyo and national competitions of the 70th All-Japan Student Music Competition's cello division (university section). She took lessons from Frans Helmerson at the 2018 Cello Master Class held at the Kronberg Academy in Germany. She performed in the final concert with select members and received the Frans Helmerson Prize. She won the New Artist Award at the 29th Aoyama Music Award. She is a ROHM Music Foundation scholarship recipient for both 2021 and 2022. She has performed with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tochigi Symphony Orchestra, among others. She studied cello with Yutaka Miyata, Mineo Hayashi, and Sumiko Kurata. She also studied chamber music with Nobuko Yamazaki, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Ryotaro Ito, and Shigeo Neriki. She attended the coeducational music department of Toho Girls' High School and graduated with Chief the cello department of Toho Gakuen School of Music. He then completed the Soloist Diploma course at the same university.
He is currently Chief cellist New Japan Philharmonic.
